Rumeysa's Story

I was born with scoliosis as a part of my syndrome. I had bracing for a few years when I was so young. However, it didn't work at all, and my "S curve" progressed to 65 degrees and started to cause some serious health problems. Just a week before my 17th birthday, I had my spinal fusion surgery. The surgery was challenging and complicated by my syndrome, and some complications occurred, which led me to stay in the hospital for three months.
Standing at almost 7’1”, I'm the tallest living woman confirmed by Guinness World Records. I hold 6 Guinness World Records titles at total and one of them is “the longest back (female)”. I have the longest spine ever that underwent spinal fusion surgery, and my vertebrae are notably thicker than others'. This was one of the reasons why the surgery was so difficult for doctors. All my rods and screws were custom-made.
However, it was the most life-changing period and the best decision I have ever made. On the 1st anniversary of my surgery, I shared a blog post describing my scoliosis and surgery journey. I have received so much positive feedback from fellow patients for the years following.
I also have become interested in raising awareness and contributing to research for scoliosis. I have taken part in many global projects, and our paths crossed with Enuval. I had the privilege of joining the team in late 2019. I have been featured in various medical articles since I was born. However, with the Enuval team, I had the opportunity to be featured as a Researcher in an article for the first time ever, rather than a Patient. That's a significant personal achievement for me and I'm looking forward to finding out what we will accomplish as a team in the future.
