Kelly's Story

I was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 13. After trying different resources to minimize the progress of my spine curvature, the doctors decided that the best option for me at that moment was spinal fusion surgery.
Accessing the instrumentation and setting up for the surgery while living in South America was challenging.
I remember the doctors giving my parents the name/brand and branch on where to buy the instrumentation we needed. Basically, my parents went to the local store with the information provided by the doctors and paid themselves for the implants. It’s also important to point out that the seller was responsible for getting the instrumentation to the hospital on the day and time of the surgery. There were not many brands/options available in the country, and as in many other countries in South America, patients do purchase their own instrumentation for spine surgery.
